The SA-5 amplifier also has three AUX ports so you can connect non-streaming sources, such as a CD player.

Is the amplifier compatible with Bose Home Speaker family products?
The products cannot be grouped together through a Bose app. SoundTouch products use the SoundTouch app; while the Bose Home Speaker family uses the Bose Music app. However, Apple device owners can use Apple AirPlay 2 to group the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier with Bose Home Speaker family products for multi-room synchronized playback. Apple AirPlay 2 requires a Wi-Fi connection.
Can I connect the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier to my existing Bose speakers?
Most passive stereo speakers will work with the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier. These include 151 SE environmental speakers, 251 environmental speakers, Free Space 51 environmental speakers, 161 speaker system, 201 Direct/Reflecting speaker system, 301 Direct/Reflecting speaker system, Acoustimass 3 and Acoustimass 5 stereo speaker systems, Virtually Invisible 591 in-ceiling speakers, Virtually Invisible 691 in-wall speakers, Virtually Invisible 791 in-ceiling speakers and Virtually Invisible 891 in-wall speakers. The Bose 901 speakers are active speakers and therefore will not work with the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier.
Can I connect to speakers from other manufacturers?
Yes. If using a single pair of speakers, any speaker rated at 4 ohms or higher is compatible. When running two pairs of speakers, we recommend using speakers rated no lower than 8 ohms.
How many speakers can an SA-5 amplifier power?
Two speaker connectors allow for the connection of two pairs of speakers in parallel in order to power two rooms or put four speakers in a larger space. All attached speakers will work together as one SoundTouch zone.
Can I use the SA-5 amplifier to power my existing Bose speakers in parallel?
The SA-5 amplifier can power most Bose passive speakers in parallel. These include 251 environmental speakers, Free Space 51 environmental speakers, 161 speaker system, 201 Direct/Reflecting speaker system, Acoustimass 5 stereo speaker system, Virtually Invisible 591 in-ceiling speakers, Virtually Invisible 691 in-wall speakers, Virtually Invisible 791 in-ceiling speakers and Virtually Invisible 891 in-wall speakers. Bose passive speakers that cannot be powered in parallel include 151 SE environmental speakers, 301 Direct/Reflecting speaker system, Acoustimass 3 stereo speaker system and 901 Direct/Reflecting speaker system.
How do you control the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier?
You control the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier with the free SoundTouch app on your smartphone, tablet or computer.
Does the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier have an auxiliary input?
Yes. The SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier has three auxiliary inputs, including two pairs of RCAs and one 3.5 mm mini-stereo jack.
Can the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier be used outdoors?
No. The SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier is neither designed for nor protected from placement that may expose it to rain, condensation, ice, salt water, extreme heat or other weather conditions. It can be used with outdoor speakers, but must be placed inside while the speakers are outside.
Where should the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier be installed?
The SA-5 should not be placed in a metal wall panel or cabinet and should instead be placed in a non-metal entertainment center, like one made of wood, in order to allow for optimal Wi-Fi® connectivity. If the SA-5 is wired to Ethernet, it may be placed in a metal wall panel or cabinet, as long as the location of the SA-5 is well-ventilated.
Can multiple SoundTouch SA-5 amplifiers be installed in an amplifier rack?
Yes. It is possible to install multiple SoundTouch SA-5 amplifiers in an amplifier rack. Please refer to the Owner’s guide for appropriate spacing.
