Connecting an external audio device

Refer to the owner's guide of the product being connected for more detailed instructions.

1/8-inch audio output

If the portable audio device has a 1/8-inch audio output, follow these steps to connect the device to your Companion® 2 speakers:

  • Connect a stereo 1/8-inch male cable to the audio output jack of the portable audio device. It may be labeled "Line OUT" or "Headphone OUT"

    Note: If you have an original Apple® iPhone®, which has a recessed 1/8-inch audio output jack, you may need an adapter to make this connection.
  • Insert the other end of the 1/8-inch cable into either the FROM COMPUTER or AUX IN jack on the back of the right speaker

1/4-inch audio output

If the portable audio device has a 1/4-inch audio output, follow these steps to connect the device to your Companion 2 speakers:

  • Insert the 1/4-inch connector of a stereo 1/4-inch male-to-stereo 1/8-inch male adapter cable into the audio output jack of the portable audio device. It may be labeled "Line OUT" or "Headphone OUT"
  • Insert the 1/8" connector into either the FROM COMPUTER or AUX IN jack on the back of the right speaker

RCA audio output

If the portable audio device has a stereo RCA audio output, follow these steps to connect the device to your Companion 2 speakers:

  • Connect the pair of RCA connectors of a dual RCA-to-stereo 1/8-inch male adapter cable to the audio output jacks of the portable audio device. It may be labeled "Line OUT" or "Audio OUT"
  • Insert the 1/8-inch connector into either the FROM COMPUTER or AUX IN jack on the back of the right speaker
